QuillBot paraphrasing and citations: preserve meaning, qualifications and attribution

A paraphrase changes wording, not ownership of an idea: compare claims with the source and retain the citation before publishing.

SOURCE-BASED ANALYSIS · NO HANDS-ON RATING

Define what must survive the rewrite

Before paraphrasing, mark names, figures, dates, causal claims, uncertainty and limiting words such as may, only or under these conditions. These elements carry meaning even when the surrounding prose changes. Keep the source open during review rather than comparing only with memory.

Do not confuse new wording with original authorship

QuillBot's help center states that paraphrasing another source still requires proper citation. A rewritten sentence can remain dependent on the source's idea or evidence. Record the source before processing text and keep the citation attached through drafting and export.

Use a claim-by-claim review table

Source elementParaphrase checkDecision
Qualified recommendationDid a cautious claim become absolute?Restore the qualification or reject
Number and periodAre both unchanged and in context?Verify against the source
Attributed interpretationIs the speaker still clear?Retain attribution and citation
Technical termDid a synonym change the defined meaning?Use the authoritative term

Create citations before the final edit

QuillBot Flow documents a citation tool that can create a source from a URL or book search and also allows manual composition and editing. Check author, title, publication date, publisher and access information against the source itself. A generated citation is a structured draft, not evidence that every field is correct.

  1. Capture the source and citation details.
  2. Highlight facts and qualifications that must survive.
  3. Paraphrase a small section rather than an entire mixed-source draft.
  4. Compare every resulting claim with the source.
  5. Restore citations before moving the text elsewhere.
  6. Run a final attribution check after formatting.

A worked review example

A fictional report says a pilot may reduce processing time when a specific approval step is present. A paraphrase that says the system reduces processing time has lost both the uncertainty and the condition. The reviewer restores those elements and keeps the report citation. This example illustrates editorial control; it is not a measured QuillBot result.
