SOURCE-BASED ANALYSIS · NO HANDS-ON RATING
Choose one schedule anchor
ClickUp templates can retain task start and due dates and remap them when a Space, Folder, Subfolder or List template is applied. The reviewer can anchor the new schedule by a start date or final due date. Tasks that contain only one of those dates keep only that included date; remapping does not create missing dates automatically.
Create a boundary fixture
Build a fictional two-week launch template containing one task with both dates, one with only a due date, one weekend-spanning task and one timed task. Apply it once from a new start date and once from a new end date in a test location.
| Fixture | Expected check | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Both dates present | Relative duration retained | Unexpected shift |
| Due date only | No start date invented | False planning precision |
| Skip weekends enabled | Working-day shift reviewed | Holiday still included |
| Folder with several Lists | Each List boundary checked | Assumed global end date |
Inspect content as well as dates
Task templates can include assignees, attachments, comments, checklists, statuses and custom fields. Applying a template that contains a custom field with the same name as a different existing field can leave both fields on the List. Review the import choices and remove client-specific content before saving the reusable template.
- Record the original earliest and latest dates.
- Choose start-date or end-date anchoring.
- Apply the template in a test location.
- Compare every date-only and timed task.
- Review weekend handling and note that holidays are separate.
- Inspect assignees, comments, attachments and custom fields.
- Approve the remapped schedule only after reconciliation.
Accept the schedule from evidence
Accept the template when the intended relative sequence survives, missing dates remain deliberately missing and no stale ownership or duplicate field has been introduced. ClickUp notes that template date remapping is not available through the same path when an automation creates or updates a task, so do not generalize this checklist to every automation.
