SOURCE-BASED ANALYSIS · NO HANDS-ON RATING
Define authority field by field
HubSpot data sync mappings determine which properties synchronize, in which direction and how discrepancies are resolved. A global direction does not remove the need to inspect field types, read-only constraints and the meaning of values in each application. Declare which system is authoritative for each business concept.
Build a conflict fixture
For a fictional contact sync, create synthetic records with the same controlled identifier in both systems. Give the phone field different values, leave one side blank, use an unmapped option value and add a relationship that should synchronize. State expected results before activating the pilot.
| Fixture | Expected result | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Matching identifier, conflicting phone | Declared conflict rule wins | Before-and-after values |
| Blank in authoritative app | Follow documented blank behavior | No assumed deletion |
| Unknown stage label | Rejected or held for mapping review | Sync status and retained source value |
| Valid company association | Relationship preserved when mapping is enabled | IDs on both sides |
Inspect special field behavior
The official mapping guide describes considerations for names, addresses, phone numbers, associations and status labels. For example, labels may need to match for stage or status fields, and multi-value fields can behave differently from a simple text property. Do not approve a mapping because the labels merely look similar.
- Inventory objects, identifiers and required relationships.
- Record field types and allowed values in both systems.
- Select sync direction and conflict authority.
- Run the synthetic conflict fixtures.
- Inspect failed, excluded and partially synchronized records.
- Reconcile IDs, values and associations after a second update cycle.
Keep rollback operational
Preserve the source values and configuration evidence needed to stop the sync and repair a bad mapping. Turning off one mapping is not proof that earlier changes have been reversed. Accept the pilot only when normal, conflict, blank and invalid cases have explainable results.
This guide does not claim a live integration test, universal field compatibility or availability of custom mappings on every subscription.
